About the data

Hardly anything is visible in this image but it’s included to anchor in time the beginning of my serious attempts to start learning how to capture photos of the night sky. Humble beginnings and whatnot. I wasn’t sure where to start, and figured the best answer was “Point the camera at the sky and see what happens. Go from there…”

I doubt I was even aiming for Ursa Major, likely just trying to practice getting stars into focus using the camera live view. Not that this was the first picture of stars I ever took, it wasn’t, but it was among the earliest I took on my first drive out to a dark spot specifically with the mindset of practicing the hobby.
